This image is on a billboard in Manhattan located in SOHO. I'm appalled as many other African American women are as well. "THE MOST DANGEROUS PLACE FOR ANY AFRICAN AMERICAN IS IN THE WOMB." Really? Let's be clear. Every nationality of women has had abortions. To just deem women of color as the main focus of this abortion ad is unfair and biased. Let's also be clear that abortions are legal in the state of New York. Again, ABORTION is LEGAL in the state of New York, so to criticize and demoralize a woman of any nationality for aborting her unborn child for whatever her reason may be, is simply wrong. Placing an ad shaming African Americans in the middle if SOHO for young African American children and young African American adults to see isn't going decrease abortion rates.
We need not forget that we are free to do what we choose with our bodies. Ostracizing a RACE because of statistics will not stop or slow down abortion rates. Instead of blaming African American wombs for abortions, we need to preach more about safe sex and different forms of birth control.
